A Team2019 visit

David, Steph, Victoria, Carol and Chakra (from left to right) on our way to assist our Nigerian colleagues in training health workers in newborn resuscitation and the management of bleeding at birth. We will be enabling local training coordinators to introduce Helping Babies Breathe and providing new and improved Laerdal bag/valve/masks for resuscitation of newborn babies. We will learn about local priorities around maternal health and introduce the Bleeding at Birth module.

Midwives to join 2019 visit to Nigeria

FlorenceVickyTwo midwives, Florence Makinde (left) from Reading and Vicky Jones (right) from Bradford are joining our visit to Nigeria later this year. NHCP supports basic neonatal care in health centres and hospitals in Nigeria. Vicky and Florence will develop links with colleagues in Nigeria so that NHCP can effectively support local staff who work with women in pregnancy and labour.

Christmas Cards 2019

Wise MenShepherds

We have two new cards this year, which are sold in packs of ten. There are five of each design per pack. The designs come from the banner group at Chapel Allerton Methodist Church, Leeds. The wording inside is: Wishing You Peace and Joy at Christmas.

Cards are available by post, see order form, or at NHCP events.

Palm oil flows again at Uzuakoli

MillPalmThanks to a grant from the Muriel Frampton legacy, the leprosy centre at Uzuakoli has refurbished and re-equipped their oil-palm mill. This means that the centre is able to produce palm oil from their own trees as well as generating income from other smallholders. NHCP has allocated most of the Muriel Frampton legacy to projects like this which will enable the places we support to be more self-sustaining.

Prayer Guide

A month-by-month prayer guide has been produced by Jenny Benfield who coordinates our Association of Friends. Many people are finding it helpful to focus their prayers. Click here

Ronke MuyiwaAGM 2019

Our Annual General Meeting took place on June 25th. This was the culmination of a four-yearly strategic review of NHCP’s work. We were encouraged and blessed by the presence of Deaconess Ronke Oworu, Health Secretary of Methodist Church Nigeria, who helped us to think and pray about the current state and future direction of NHCP.

NHCP Young Adults’ Movement

Click to enlarge As well as the appointment of Chibundu Onuzo as our Patron, we are delighted to report that NHCP now has a small group of young adult volunteers of Nigerian heritage in the UK. One of the them, Dr Somi Idowu, visited the projects in Igede Diocese, Benue State and helped with the training at Bethesda Hospital – he’s the tall guy standing at the back of this group of happy participants.
